Upcoming Speaker Series — Protect What Matters: Estate Planning for LGBTQIA+ Families
For all families, estate planning is a critical process to ensure you control your finances and property while you are alive and well, should you become incapacitated, and after your death. For LGBTQIA+ families, these steps and protections are especially important. In 2015, Obergefell v. Hodges affirmed the freedom to marry nationwide and struck down state-level bans, but in recent years and months, we have seen a rise in ongoing hostility toward LGBTQIA+ rights in some states and courts.
We invite you to join our next Speaker Series webinar, “Protect What Matters: Estate Planning for LGBTQIA+ Families,” on June 23 at 3 p.m. ET.
Clean Yield’s Liz Levy will host a panel conversation with practicing attorneys Amy Escott at Clarke, Demas & Berger, and Deborah Danger at DangerLaw, to gain insights and strategies on LGBTQIA+ estate planning. This webinar will help families understand the steps to legally protect themselves and their families and align financial decisions with their values.
Attendees will learn why and how to manage estate planning now, which includes:
- Ensuring you control your finances and property while you’re alive and well.
- Designating trusted people to make financial and medical decisions if you become incapacitated.
- Making sure your assets go where you want, when you want, and how you want after your death with the proper documentation.
- Completing specific marriage and family planning steps and legal documentation for LGBTQIA+ families that last beyond any potential changes to marriage protections.
Register to join us at this timely and important conversation.
About Our Speakers
Deborah Danger, J.D., LL.M., is a Massachusetts attorney experienced in asset protection for estate planning, estate administration, divorce and family law, and small business succession planning, and is a trained mediator and Collaborative lawyer. Before becoming a lawyer, Deborah held positions as a mortgage banker, real estate investment analyst, and commercial property manager. While at law school, she focused on tax law and studied it exclusively for an additional year after graduating from law school in the realms of estate planning and business succession planning. As a tax lawyer, she creates thoughtful estate plans and strategically manages divorce, business succession planning, and families who must protect a family or family member from being taken advantage of due to illness or declining mental ability. DangerLaw provides inclusive legal services addressing the unique needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. Outside of work, Deborah enjoys walking her dog along Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, hanging with friends, and listening to crime-focused podcasts.
Amy Escott, Esq., began her professional career as a woodworker and small business owner before pursuing a longstanding interest in law. Following her clerkship, Amy spent two years with the Vermont Land Trust, where she further developed her real estate expertise and worked extensively with conservation easements. After several years in a thriving independent legal practice, Amy joined Clarke, Demas & Berger in 2025 as an associate attorney in the fall of 2025, where she continues to practice with an individualized and client-centered approach. Amy has a niche with the LGBTQIA community after having helped found the first LGBTQIA-focused legal clinic in Vermont through the Pride Center. She has served on the board of Outright Vermont and continues to do pro bono work for them. Outside of her legal work, Amy enjoys spending time outdoors—playing ice hockey, snowboarding, camping, and kayaking—as well as visiting her five nieces. She lives in Hinesburg, Vermont, with her wife, Tamara, and their very fluffy cat, Isabella Fuzzolini.
