Clean Yield in Conversation: Market Outlook October 2025
Clean Yield in Conversation features team members in dialogue with timely updates and analysis of the financial markets. Listen to this episode with insights from Liz Levy:
A scene from The Wizard of Oz captures our team’s general feeling at the end of the third quarter. When the Scarecrow first meets Dorothy on the yellow brick road, he points her in both directions. Which way is the economy headed?
On the one hand, the stock market is at an all-time high, with investors largely ignoring the ongoing political dysfunction and weakening of key economic indicators. On the other hand, rumblings about overstretched valuations and AI bubbles persist. The wealth effect has re-entered the conversation, as stock market participants are insulated from the stresses that lower-income individuals are experiencing.
“We are not pretending we know which way things will shake out,” says Liz. “While we acknowledge the risks — including the market being at an overall very high valuation — we realize that current conditions could persist longer than we expect.”
Clean Yield’s strategy is to build resilient portfolios crafted for the long term, composed of high-quality companies that meet our social and environmental standards. At the same time, we are continuing to engage in shareholder advocacy and apply our rigorous social and environmental standards.
